ASTER RESIDENCE
This midcentury modern home in upstate New York gently blends elements of the twentieth century’s design spectrum. Modern chairs pair with an antique French dining table to form an eclectic and visually cohesive balance, highlighting the complementary nature of traditional and contemporary, a parallel to the professional and creative equilibrium of the residents. A Finn Juhl credenza sourced from Open Air Modern sits amidst the soft textures of the living room as a visual bridge between the warm-toned wooden ceiling and black stained floors. A secondary midcentury teak credenza can be found downstairs, upon it one of many sculptures by the client’s father on display throughout the home. Above it, an abstract acrylic painting by Harry Hilson hangs, procured through gallery Sheafer + King Modern.
The wooden paneling added by DEMO Architects in the downstairs media room camouflages the entrance to the homeowners’ music room and extends into a shelf that holds plants sourced for the space through Garden Apartment. The visual temperance throughout the home lies in the layers of soft texture: a sofa in dense mohair from Maiden Home anchors the living room, a verdant green rug from Eny Lee Parker welcomes you to the primary bedroom, and celadon grasscloth wallpaper from The Lawns lines a niche in the guest bedroom. With the home office located in the new addition by DEMO Architects, the professional space is both private and interwoven, the wooden walkway bridging two parts of a whole enveloping the minimal courtyard garden.
